Dr Zakaria Siddiqui
Dr Zakaria Siddiqui is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Jamia Milia Islamia University (JMI).
Before joining JMI, Dr Siddiqui was an Economist at the Department of Social Services, Government of Australia. He also served as faculty at Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation, Kerala, and other prominent institutes such as BITS Hyderabad, Institute of Economics and Peace, Sydney, University of South Australia, Adelaide and Institute of Development Studies, Kolkata
Dr Siddiqui conducts data-driven research in applied economics and public policy on topics like inclusive growth & development, public health and nutrition, informal labour, women and work, political economy in energy sector policies, energy poverty, skilled migration and development, positive peace as a predictor of political/social instability, and development and democracy.
Dr Zakaria has contributed significantly to the calorie puzzle debate in India, in unravelling the complex role of socio-economic status in determining nutritional outcomes for different age groups, in understanding the role of scientific diasporas in the development process, on gender-related issues in labour market and social policy, understanding the regulatory issues in power sector of India, and on energy poverty in India
Dr Zakaria’s research has been published in reputed journals like World Development, The Journal of Development Studies, Public Health Nutrition, Health Policy and Planning, Energy Policy, and Economic and Political Weekly.
